Storyline: Thirteen-year-old Meltem’s childhood comes to a brutal end when she is imprisoned at the notorious Yarl’s Wood detention centre in this true life drama inspired by the campaign for the rights of women and children refugees in the UK.
Overview: Based on author and broadcaster Natasha Walter’s acclaimed verbatim theatre production of the same name, Motherland is a true story told though the eyes of 13-year old Meltem Avcil and her experience of an unjust asylum system, and how she manages to find her voice and effect social change. A treatment is currently being drafted by Jane English.
