Overview:……..The feature film follow-up to Asitha Ameresekere‘s BAFTA-winning short Do Not Erase, KIN is a rich character-led suspense drama that resonates as a political statement on the devastating effects of war and will have wide appeal at prestigious international festivals and in the UK and international marketplace. Asitha’s distinct authorial voice brings to mind the films of Andrea Arnold and Asif Kapadia. The project began life at the Berlinale Talent Lab in 2010 where it won the Highlight Pitch Award. KIN was recently selected for the IFP No Borders Market taking place in NYC during Independent Film Week.

Asitha Ameresekere has been a classicist, teacher, and librarian. A passion for storytelling led him to make short films, music videos and stage plays. After spending his childhood in Sri Lanka, he was educated at Harrow School, read Classics at Bristol University, and received a MFA in Directing for Theatre, Video & Cinema at the California Institute of the Arts.

Asitha’s subsequent short – 14 – was BAFTA-nominated in 2009, selected for 16 international film festivals, and sold to ARTE.
